Four Novels + One Short Story by Gil Brewer
Requirements: ePUB Reader, 1.8mb
Overview: Florida writer Gil Brewer (1922-1983) was the author of dozens of wonderfully sleazy sex/crime adventure novels of the 1950’s and 60’s, including Backwoods Teaser and Nude on Thin Ice; some of them starring private eye Lee Baron (Wild) or the brothers Sam and Tate Morgan (The Bitch) . Gil Brewer, who had not previously published any novels, began to write for Gold Medal Paperbacks in 1950-51. Brewer wrote some 30 novels between 1951 and the late 60s – very often involving an ordinary man who becomes involved with, and is often corrupted and destroyed by, an evil or designing woman. His style is simple and direct, with sharp dialogue, often achieving considerable intensity. Brewer was one of the many writers who ghost wrote under the Ellery Queen byline as well. Brewer also was known as Eric Fitzgerald, Bailey Morgan, and Elaine Evans.

The Angry Dream aka The Girl from Hateville (1957)
She was even lovelier than my memory of her. I watched her as she walked into the room, admiring the smooth movement of her fine legs and the curves under the soft weave of her sweater.
She tossed her thick dark hair back and walked over to me.
“It’s been a long time, Al.” Her voice still had the husky breathless sound that made my ears burn.
I stepped close to her and put my hands on her waist. Her head went back, her eyes shining at me with bitterness and confusion and something else I couldn’t read. I drew her to me and felt the soft impact of her body and kissed her—her throat and then her lips. Her mouth opened and her body abandoned itself to mine, her fingernails digging at my back.

Wild to Possess (1959)
Lew Brookbank is running from his grief. His wife had left him for another man, and he had discovered them together–murdered. Drowning himself in gin, one night he stumbles across a parked car where a man and a woman are plotting the kidnapping and murder of the man’s wife. At first he thinks he should turn them in, but there is some real money involved here, and he makes the liquor-fueled decision to follow them and work a double-cross of his own. But Lew doesn’t figure on Clarkson, brother of his dead wife’s lover. Clarkson wants to bring him back to pay for the death of his brother. But there’s no turning back on the plan now–Lew has got to see this one through to the end.

A Taste for Sin (1961)
Taste for Sin is the story of Jim Phalen, who is on the run from a cheating wife and an act of vengeance that he committed in the heat of the moment against his wife’s lover. Working in a new town, and trying to hack out a new life without his wife, Jim meets Felice and for the first time he thinks he can forget his wife and the past. The passion scenes between these two explode on the pages like nothing I’ve read before. This is hot passion, smoldering with a fire that you don’t find in today’s over blown and explicit fiction.
While the heat between the two is reason enough to read this book, the main plot is terrific: a bank robbery that Felice wants Jim to help her pull off. The road to this heist has enough twists and turns along the way to keep the pressure on Jim, and will keep you flipping the pages as fast as you can.

It Takes a Thief 01 The Devil in Davos
Al Mundy was young, handsome, sophisticated…and an accomplished safecracker and thief. Which made him particularly valuable as a secret agent for the SIA.
Mundy didn’t want to work for the SIA, but it was a choice between that and a long prison term. So he became the SIA’s top man for international "glamour jobs"–exotic locales, beautiful women, the finest hotels, food and drink.
But when Mundy’s assignment took him to a famous ski resort in Switzerland to steal back microfilmed information about a U.S. operative behind the Iron Curtain, he was faced with the ugly side of his job: deception, torture and death. For Al Mundy was captured by a very deadly enemy…

Moonshine (1955) Short Story
When Jim comes home early, he finds a man sneaking out the back door of his house. Of course, being the jealous type, he can’t help but take his revenge, and in typical Gil Brewer style, things spiral out of control from there.
