Twilight Land – It is evening at the Inn of the Sign of Mother Goose. In a dark, smoky room, the world’s most famous storytellers gather to weave tales of mystery and enchantment. In this collection of 16 haunting fairy tales, Howard Pyle intertwines each story with the next, crafting a unified world filled with princes and demons, genies and sorceresses, and all the characters that pitch in to wage the age-old battle between good and evil. This Looking Glass Library edition includes an introduction by N. D. Wilson and Pyle’s intricate line illustrations from the original 1894 publication.
Men of Iron – In Men of Iron young Myles Falworth wins a reputation for courage and independence while still in training at the castle of the great Earl of Mackworth. But one day he discovers that his blind father had been condemned for treason and is still being hunted by a powerful enemy who is close to the King. To challenge the King’s champion means certain death. Should he risk all to win back his family’s honor? See other titles by this author available from Kessinger Publishing.
Otto of the Silver Hand – A rich and engrossing thread of Romance runs through this tale of the motherless son of a valiant robber baron of Medieval Germany. Young Otto, born into a warring household in an age when lawless chiefs were constantly fighting each other or despoiling the caravans of the merchant burghers, is raised in a monastery only to return to his family’s domain and become painfully involved in the blood feud between his father and the rival house of Trutz-Drachen.
The narrative is told with Howard Pyle’s consummate skill and illustrated with some of the most enchanting sketches ever done for a book of this type. Like the same author’s version of The Story of King Arthur and His Knights and his collection of original stories known as The Wonder Clock, this book has become a legend, a modern story with the feel and sound of an ancient tale. It is a reading adventure that youngsters will not soon forget.
The Wonder Clock, Illustrated Edition (Yesterday’s Classics) – "Four and twenty marvellous tales, one for each hour of the day," retold in a novel and entertaining manner by a master of the form. While drawing on German, English, and Scandinavian folk literature for many of his characters and plots, Pyle reworks the material in an imaginative way, crafting the tales in his own inimitable style. Equally engaging are the numerous woodcuts that accompany the stories and enliven the narrative.
