Overview: Michael Z. Lewin is the award-winning author of many mystery novels and short stories. Most have been set in and around Indianapolis, Indiana, where he grew up. Albert Samson is a low-key private eye and the stories focus on humane understanding of the cases and problems Samson encounters. Leroy Powder is an irascible Indy police lieutenant who truly wants his colleagues to become better cops. They’re bound to be grateful, right? Both central characters have an abiding wish to see justice done. One of the features of the series novels, and some stand-alones, is that that main characters from one book often appear in lesser roles in other books.
Since 1971 Mike has lived in the West of England, currently in Bath where his city-centre flat overlooks the nearby hills.

And Baby Will Fall aka Child Proof (1988)
Adele Buffington is working late when she’s startled by an intruder. The next day a man is found murdered. The note pinned to his jacket reads, "Hands off, social workers!" Then, a woman and her two young daughters go missing. When Adele decides to launch her own investigation, with the help—or hindrance—of PI Albert Samson and Lt. Leroy Powder, she quickly finds herself out of her depth, haunted by echoes of her own past and by a killer who could obliterate her future.
Underdog (1993)
Small-time hustler and ex-jailbird Jan Moro is trying hard to make an honest living for a change. Never at a loss for a story or a moneymaking idea, he discovers that finding a backer, or even a place to sleep, in the alleys and bars of Indianapolis can lead a guy into worlds of trouble.
Reminiscent of the works of Elmore Leonard, with its loquacious, larger-than-life protagonist and singular cast, Underdog is a comedy about life, death, and cashing in.
Oh Joe (2008)
Joe Prince means well, he really does. But he’s never been good at spending his nights alone. So, in order to try to become more mature and a better person for his girlfriend Kelly, he does something he knows he shouldn’t: he agrees to house-sit George Wayne’s houseboat. In the middle of a reservoir Joe will have to learn how to be alone. And what can go wrong, even though from their school days George has always been the kind of guy who gets Joe in trouble? This time is no exception and George doesn’t come back when he’s supposed to. Poor Joe gets himself off the houseboat and he makes it home, but within days George’s body has been found on the boat along with an injured dog. With Joe’s fingerprints allover the place, he’s the obvious suspect
