My two Roman novels are ‘Legionaries of the Boar’ and the sequel ‘Sword of The Boar.’ Both are set in Britannia in the period of the lesser known Antonine Wall (AD 140 onwards) and are now out on Amazon. The third book to complete the trilogy ‘Centurion of The Boar’ will be coming soon.
Genre: Historical Fiction
01 Legionaries of the Boar
This is a fast paced, edgy, action adventure set in Britain shortly after the Roman invasion of Scotland. It is AD 140 and the new emperor Antoninus Pius has decided the stone wall of his predecessor Hadrian is not sufficient to maintain order in the restless northern sector of Britannia. He has decreed a new wall is to be built even further to the north to keep those hostile tribes at bay from the increasingly civilised south.
Velio Pinneius is a gifted young drill instructor in the Twentieth legion. He runs foul of an equally young but much more powerful political tribune appointed to the legion named Paterculus. Paterculus dreams of finding glory for his family by discovering the last resting place of the long lost Ninth legion which disappeared thirty years previously. The local Roman commanders would prefer to let the memory of that ill fated legion quietly fade. Oblivious to the needs of his men Paterculus will stop at nothing to get the results he wants, including settling a score with Velio.
02 Sword of The Boar
Sword of the Boar is the sequel to Legionaries of the Boar.
The year is AD155/156 and in the province of Britannia the turf and timber wall of the emperor Antonine is being abandoned as pressure mounts on the Roman army’s ability to defend its frontiers. Velio Pinneius is appointed temporary commander of the Trimontium garrison (in what is now the Scottish borders). His orders are to keep the east road open so that the evacuation of the wall can proceed. But guilt over the death of his former comrade Marcus Hirtius, and a developing local romance complicate matters. Once the local tribes get a sniff of what is happening on the wall they too have choices to make and alliances to build.
South of Hadrian’s stone wall, things are not entirely peaceful either. Velio, Gallus Tiomaris, Hanno Glaccus and Servius Albinius join together once more as the men of the Twentieth legion, "The Boar," try to stay on top of a potential nightmare.
