But one day, while he’s fixing a leak under a car and the jack stand breaks, it’s more than his skull that gets crushed. Soon, he plunges into despair and tries to end his life the only way he knows how: by taking his doctor’s Lancer on the ultimate joy ride and going in a blaze of glory.
Mikey speeds through the streets and is soon chased by the police. Yet, even with one functional hand, he manages to ridicule the cops. That little stunt—which gets on the news and is broadcasted to the entire country—will draw the attention of people who run an underground virtual world for individuals with peculiar skills. Those mysterious people will give Mikey the opportunity to join this no man’s land where there are no limits and where he’d no longer be disabled. In short, they offer him a new hope to accomplish his dream of racing.
But first, Mikey has to earn his ticket by winning the trials.

Elijah Wolf is an expert in survival. He’s managed to withstand the worst that Mother Nature could throw at him and live to tell the tale. Fresh of a new stunt in Siberia, with nothing but his skills to save his skin in the icy cold tundra, he’s now done it all and has nothing more to prove to anyone. With no more challenges ahead, he decides to retire on the money he made advertising his feats.
He tries to acclimate to his new life, one without the constant threat of hunger, thirst, cold or predators. But he’s having a hard time adjusting. After a few months, he’s contacted by the representative of some tech company that wants him to beta test a virtual game that offers the ultimate test of survival.
Elijah laughs it off. How could a mere game even compare to the crazy stuff he’s done and all the dangerous situations he put himself in? However, curiosity ends up having the last word and he lets himself get convinced. What does he stand to lose anyway?
As other players join him in these unforgiving lands, they soon find out that the elements and wild animals are far from the worst enemies that could threaten their lives. In this virtual world, there are much worse monsters, and they may wear the same innocent face as you and I.
