Overview: An English writer of crime-oriented fictions with a metaphysical twist. Rod spent his early years in remote areas of Central Africa. Both the place and the country where he was born now no longer exist and the way of life of that expatriate community has vanished forever. He came back to England in the late Sixties and completed his further education in the West Country. Unsettled by his displacement from Africa, Rod drifted through Britain, Europe and America. He studied in Texas and completed a PhD on the work of Vladimir Nabokov. A motorcycle journey through Devon forty years ago brought him to Torquay where he first read a snippet in the local press about the strange history of John ‘Babbacombe’ Lee. That story stayed with him and planted a seed that grew to become the novel Babbicam. Rod went on to have a career working in maximum security psychiatric institutions. The work helped give him a unique perspective on the human mind and its potential for evil. The Crime Writers Association has described his work as "chilling and authentic". Rod is also the author of the novel No Way To Say Goodbye (2009), shortlisted for the C.W.A. John Creasey Dagger Award. Ship of Fools (2013), a collection of short stories on the theme of dangerous health professionals. The Love Killers – published in Crime (2013), a study of murder-suicides in marital couples and The Rising Flame (2015), a memoir on the life and mysterious death of the WW2 poet Sidney Keyes.

No Way to Say Goodbye
Five steps lead up to the hidden world of the maximum security asylum. Jack Keyse is looking for the truth about what happened to his vanished lover. He uses his professional contacts to get close to those who might be responsible. At the same time he seeks forgetfulness in the chaos of his dissolute life. He comes to discover and take vengeance but when at last he finds out the truth the challenge is to live with that knowledge.

Babbicam
Who was Babbacombe Lee, and what is his final secret?
In a backyard junk sale a young American poet finds some vintage recordings of John ‘Babbacombe’ Lee telling his story; he was known as ‘ the man they could not hang’ throughout England, having survived execution. He claimed he was saved from death because he was innocent of the bloody crime. The poet must escape his own ghosts as he goes questing for the truth about Lee, and before the past can yield up all of its secrets, he must first go back to the original scene of the crime – that mysterious Devonshire beach the locals called Babbicam.
