Part earth spirit, part elder demon – the tree is farming them. The characters are bound in a tightening noose of of undeniable fate. As winter sets in they must face the tree’s unholy fury in an utterly horrific finale. Devil-Tree is a story that will take you further into the heart of unimaginable horror.

2. Gypsy Blood: Half-Gypsy, Carnival carries his dead Poppa inside him as a perpetual adviser as he works as fortune-teller and occult troubleshooter, banishing demons and succubi with a carefree confidence born only of youth. His life journey takes a distinctly different turn when he meets Maya, an alluring female vampire. This opening book to the Carnival Cycle Series details a dark version of the modern world, in which demons appear unbidden and where having a talent and using it successfully can mean either life or death.

3. Maritime Murder: In his uniquely homespun style, sinister storyteller Steve Vernon digs up the dirt on Maritime murders from 1770 to 1929–along with a few bodies along the way. Unearthing historically buried, and occasionally unsolved, violent crimes from across Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, Vernon’s versions of these 19 macabre tales will chill you to the bone. Featuring a bevy of questionable characters from the darkest recesses of Maritime history, Maritime Murder divulges a diverse array of bygone crimes, trials, and the eerie aftermath. From botched executions and poisonous tea, to “axe” murders and curious cover-ups, bear witness to the villains and victims of some of the dastardliest deeds this side of the Atlantic.

4. Midnight Hat Trick: There is magic in the number three. The three stooges. The three wise men. The three little pigs. And now – MIDNIGHT HAT TRICK – a collection of three wonderfully chilling novels from Nova Scotia storyteller Steve Vernon.
i. HAMMURABI ROAD is a dark tale of retribution, backwoods justice and getting closer to a black bear than you ever dreamed possible. The story starts with the eternal triangle – three men in a pick-up truck – two in front and one duct-taped in back.
ii. NOT JUST ANY OLD GHOST STORY is a story about coming home. It is a story that will take you to the root of storytelling.
ii. SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME is a fast and fun read that asks the question – what would a bunch of over-the-hill old-time hockey players from Northern Labrador deal with a tour bus full of vampires? If you are having a hard time dealing with that concept – just throw the movie SLAPSHOT into a blender with the movie 30 DAYS OF NIGHT and hit frappe. This isn’t high literature, you understand. This is a cold beer, a hot cheeseburger and a warm summer day.

5. Sinking Deeper: The tiny fishing community of Deeper Harbour is in deep trouble-and so is fourteen-year-old Roland MacTavish. Roland’s mom wants to move with him to Ottawa, away from his father, his weird friend Dulsie, and his even weirder grandfather, Angus. So Roland does what any sane teenager would do: he invents a sea monster. Unfortunately, the scheme quickly spins out of Roland’s control, and he has to go to greater and greater lengths to keep up the illusion. And then Roland must deal with a situation far more terrifying than any sea monster. As moving as it is irresistibly funny, Steve Vernon’s portrait of Roland and Deeper Harbour is perfect for anyone who’s ever been stuck badly enough to do something awesomely, brilliantly, heroically stupid.

6. Tatterdemon Triology (Omnibus of Revenant; Resurrection; Revelations ): In 1691 the town of Crossfall taught the witch Thessaly how to die. They beat her, they shot her, they hung her – but nothing worked. When they finally tried to bury her alive Thessaly set the field against them. The first man died as a gust of wind harrowed the meat from his bones. A root, flung like a dirty javelin, cut a second man down. Many more deaths followed. The Preacher Fell impaled the witch upon her very own broom but she dragged him down into the field to wait for three more centuries. Three hundred years later Maddy Harker will murder her bullying husband Vic. She will bury him in the field as she buried her abusive father years before that. The very same field where the revenant spirit of Thessaly Cross lies waiting. In three days Vic will rise again – a thing of dirt, bone and hatred. Men will call him the Tatterdemon. And hell – and Thessaly – will follow.

The Adventures of Captain Nothing (#01,#02)
7. #01 – Nothing to Lose: So you think you know all about superheroes? Those guys in the capes and the lightly starched spandex speedoes. Leaping tall buildings and always getting the girl. You don’t know nothing. Join Steve Vernon, Nova Scotia’s hardest working horror writer, as he takes you into the world of Captain Nothing. It’s a world without hope, a world that is as cold and dark as a landlord’s heart, three days after the rent is due. It’s a world that could give the Batman a case of the squirming night fears. NOTHING TO LOSE is a collection of stories that will show you the darker side of courage. It will show you the shadows in a hero’s heart. Go on. I dare you to take a closer look. You’ve got nothing to lose.
8. #02 – Nothing Down: Nothing Down is the continuing saga of Captain Nothing. These are super hero stories, but not like the kind you got from your comic books when you were a kid, or the kind you see in movies or on TV. This is super hero ficion from the heart of darkness, as only Steve Vernon can deliver it.

9. The Weird Ones (Short Stories): Some stories tiptoe up and whisper in your ear – all sweetness and gumdrops and happy-ever-after-after-there-you-go. Then, there are the weird ones. We’re talking talking-chickens, blue plague spam monkeys, tug boats of unbridled and fetid fecundity, tulwar-swinging cab drivers, malls that maul you, gnawing on screwdrivers and jig-lining elder gods coming at you faster than a ride-on mow-down massacre mower shopping cart caravan. This is a collection for the seriously messed up minds of all you readers who have grown tired of the trite detritus of day-to-day storytelling These are some of the weirdest, most messed up mind-bending kind of stories that have ever been written – and I’m daring you to read them now. Plague Monkey Spam – a novella of spider-gods, storytelling and the kitchen sink Gnarly Ho-Tep Hoedown Two-step – a story told over a hand of potato chip poker Hunger Time at the Midnight Mall – a yarn of belly-grumble and fear The Last Curl of Gut Rope – chicken, egg, chicken, egg, crack this riddle if you dare.

10. Wicked Woods (Ghost Stories): A new collection of ghost stories from every corner of New Brunswick. Pull up a seat and listen closely-storyteller Steve Vernon has another collection of classic, bone-chilling tales to tell. Steve takes readers from one end of New Brunswick to the other, unearthing dark tales of strange happenings along the way-from the headless ghost that haunts those who pass through Johnville’s covered bridge, to the spirit of a murdered man that guards long-buried treasure at Wolf Point. Drawing on both documented stories and legends passed on by word-of-mouth, Steve sets one spooky scene after another with a storyteller’s attention to every creepy detail, and just a touch of wry humour. It’s as though you’re sitting beside him at the campfire, getting goosebumps as each story unfolds.

11. Bad Valentines (Short Stories): Love is one of those words that people like to throw around – but sometimes love can be one of the meanest and nastiest games in town. If you’ve ever had your heart broken – then this book is for you. If you enjoy the taste of strong meat – then this book is for you. If you’ve got a sense of weird that is honed as sharp as a cutthroat’s knife – then this book is for you. Here are three of the strangest love stories you have ever read. Change of Pace – for a taste of a true Spanish fly. Wetside Story – a touching saga of love, squid-things and zombie Nazi death subs. Potboiler, told in a Spanish Key – breaking someone’s heart can sometimes be the very last thing you will ever do.

12. Special Edition Gift Pack, Vol 1: A special collection of three Steve Vernon releases
Long Horn, Big Shaggy: There’s things out there that you ain’t dreamed of. Like back-from-the-dead mountain men, green ghost mountain spirits, carrion stallion, time traveling mad scientists and zombified buffalo…just for starters. This weird western novella starts at a gallop and gathers momentum faster than a stampeding avalanche. You will never look at a severed head the same way again.

Roadside Ghosts: Ghost stories. Everyone knows one. Everyone can tell you one. Ghost stories haunt and linger and tantalize. Come on along with Steve Vernon – ghost story collector, writer, and teller – as he brings you eight of the creepiest yarns imaginable, stories that will creep up on you and teach you the fine old art of the booga-booga. Eight stories – including Steve’s haunting salute to the road gang, "The Forever Long Road of Olan Walker". Walk down this road, if you’d like to. Or better yet – run!

Two Fisted Nasty: Welcome to the hard streets. These are four of the nastiest stories ever written.
"Leftovers" – What’s left of a man when everything worth losing has already been lost? Is vengeance worth any price? Ask Father Simon. Leftovers is a story of redemption, sacrifice, and leftovers. It is a story of the bottom and what you find lying beneath it. It is a novella-length story that will shock even the most hardened reader.
"Statistic" – Just when you think you don’t count anymore you come to the bridge and you find what you really are counted for.
"Soul Survivor" – You didn’t really think the devil was just after souls, now did you? This one is more weird than nasty but who cares? It all comes out in the wash….
"Dopple Dribble" – A dark and nasty yarn about a man who is haunted by a basketball. This might sound a little goofy but once you get into this tale you are never going to sit comfortably when you hear the sound of a basketball being dribbled down the evening sidewalk.
