Overview: Nobody believes me. Most of them think I’m a little bit crazy. Some days, I wonder, too. That life. All those years in uniform. All that stuff that came after. When I look back and try to make sense of it, well, I mostly just give up. I look out the window and watch the trees sway over the hill. I like sunsets. I think clouds are prettier these days than I ever did back when I was young enough to be strong enough that any stupid idea that came to me wasn’t beyond my reach. But that was a long time ago. Now all I have are my crazy stories, and memories fading to gray, or disappearing altogether. It’s sad what time does to an old man’s brain. So I’ll give what I can, what I can piece together, what seems like a whole story when it finally hits the page. And maybe you’ll understand. Maybe you won’t care. Maybe you’ll read and pretend that the world past the edge of your iPhone screen, outside the mall, and up into the stars is a fantasy escape for silly teens and demented old men dreading the onset of incontinence. Or maybe, you’ll believe.

The Quantum Flux series follows Rasmus Brick and Deena Parsival as they travel between the star systems in the human realm, always on the verge of disaster, always trying to stay a step ahead of their enemies.

1. Ship With No Name
Never trust an AI. They’re smart, but they’re all crazy.

Rasmus Brick didn’t plan for the 11-light year trip to go sideways the moment he woke from stasis, but then, who does. Deena Parsival just wanted to get away from a planet on the edge of the human realm and start her long journey toward earth.

Neither of them thought a cargo worth a fortune would prove to be so much trouble. Nor did they think the pair of AIs running the ship would try to kill them. And that was just the beginning.

2. Piker’s Paradise
Mercs, mobsters, and a queen all want Rasmus Brick dead.

Money and revenge go a long way to making bad things happen in Piker’s Paradise, the raunchiest cesspool of a colony on this end of the galaxy. And that’s where the Ship With No Name has found itself stranded, in need of repairs the crew can’t afford. So what can they do but hire themselves out to the mercenary guilds in hopes of hitting a big score?

But these guilds don’t earn their keep by guarding casinos and pimps and walking cocktail waitresses home after work. They battle bugs the size of bears mining the asteroids out on the frontier, and they’re always on the watch for the next guild to ambush them, kill them, and steal everything they’ve earned.

3. Giants of Dawn
Earth is still a long, long way away, but Rasmus and Deena are working their way toward it. Sort of.

With the crew in stasis on a long hop to the next star, the ship’s two AIs pass the hours playing a computer sim game. Because they’re built in the human image, they get addicted, lose track of time, and the Ship With No Name ends up three hundred light years off course.

Now Brick and company are low on fuel and they have to find a way to find it in an unexplored part of the galaxy.

After another Rasmus Brick crash-landing, they find the planet populated by forty-foot, tri-pedal giants working their way through the wars and betrayals of an early industrial age. Most of the crew is captured and the Ship With No Name is impounded by monsters who think it’s nothing more than a toy. How will Rasmus Brick free his team, refuel his ship, and make his escape from the Giants of Dawn?
