#1 – Touched by Magic
I’m Apiya. No, I’m not a badass magical assassin. I’m a barber to the supernatural.
My magic is very weak and very niche—it works best with keeping things clean.
I know. I can sense your awe at my power already. And I’m sure you can see why barbering suits me well.
Although now that I’ve mastered the art of trimming a weretiger’s regrowth, my biggest challenge is fielding the insults of the shop’s cat. Sometimes I wish I had enough magic to go deeper into the city’s magical underbelly.
You know what they say—be careful what you wish for.
Everything changes when a pair of forest fae come into the shop one night, asking for help to protect their youngling. Something’s got them properly spooked, but they won’t say what.
If it’s big and bad enough to scare the fae, it’s most definitely powerful enough to make a mouthful of me—probably a small mouthful, at that. And now that the fae have come to me, whatever’s after them is also after me.
My weak magic and a sarcastic cat for backup are unlikely to be enough to keep me alive and save the fae youngling.
There is someone who’s willing to help me—Sarroch. Arrogant, unpleasant, wealthy, and I don’t even know what kind of magical creature he is beneath his human form. Or what his motives are in offering to help.
I have no idea if I can trust him, but I’m so short on allies, I might not have a choice. I just hope I’m not making a huge mistake…
#2 – Bound by Silver
I’m still only a barber to the supernatural, and I still have super weak magic, but I’ve somehow been tasked with essentially saving the world.
Yeah, I know. And if I don’t deliver, it’s my neck on the line.
So far, it’s not going too well. In fact, it’s not going at all, frankly. I have no idea where to start, no power to make anything happen, and yes, Tim the cat continues to be a sarcastic pain in the ass that’s no help whatsoever.
As if I didn’t have enough on my plate, there’s also a weird, recent increase in human suicides that definitely feels like it’s linked to something magical.
And then to top it all off, a Mundane holding an amulet manages to enter the barbershop, which should be impossible, given all the spells in place to keep them out.
I’m going to need to figure out what’s going on pretty damn quick before the Mayak decide I’m not up to the job and get rid of me. I’m up the proverbial creek without the proverbial paddle.
#3 – Lifted by Water
If I tell you I have magic, you’re probably going to expect all kinds of impressive displays, like fireballs and moving things with my mind.
Yeah, I still can’t do that.
That’s why I’m a barber to the supernatural rather than any kind of magical badass.
And now that the supernaturals have come out in public, things are getting seriously interesting.
Especially when one of my regulars goes missing. I’m never one to stand on the sidelines when a friend’s in trouble, so of course I go looking for him.
You’d be amazed at how quickly I can get in over my head.
And given my weak magic, it’s definitely not a comfortable position.

You know that sickly feeling in the pit of your stomach when things have not just gone wrong, but very, very wrong?
Yeah, that feeling. Like when you find yourself alone, facing off against an angry pontianak, a type of Asian vampire, who on top of being powerful, magical, and deadly, hates your guts. At the time the risk seemed worth it to find out more about my magic. Now? I wish I’d just stuck to barbering the supernatural.
