The 5Cs Positive Teacher Interpersonal Behaviors by Ali Derakhshan
Requirements: .ePUB, .PDF reader, 14 MB
Overview: This book argues that, in line with the tenets of positive psychology in SLA and the rhetorical/relational goal theory, positive teacher-student interpersonal relationships are deemed to be of great significance for empowering students to accomplish favorable academic outcomes and to successfully learn a second/foreign language (L2), whether at its affective, behavioral, or cognitive levels. Therefore, understanding the role of teacher interpersonal behaviors and their effect on students’ learning gains in the domain of SLA is of utmost importance, particularly as this line of research is at its nascent stage of development, and, as a result, available empirical evidence is still inconclusive. To address this issue, drawing on the mixed methods design, this book mainly aims to, first, empirically scrutinize the role of “5Cs” positive teacher interpersonal variables (i.e., care, clarity, closeness, confirmation, and credibility) in L2 students’ affective, behavioral, and cognitive learning outcomes through the mediation of student-perceived learner empowerment in the L2 context of Iran. Second, it is intended to show how L2 teacher educators, teachers, and materials developers, among other key educational stakeholders, can facilitate the provision of interpersonally rich language learning environments with the ultimate goal of enhancing students’ L2 learning.

Identity of Capability: The Emotional Aspects of Complex Learning Disorders by Benjamin Hozmi
Requirements: .ePUB, .PDF reader, 8 MB
Overview: This textbook focuses upon understanding the importance of building an identity of capability as a means of growth, giving, and living a rich and satisfying personal and interpersonal life for people with complex learning disorders. Through this book, teachers will gain a greater understanding of the emotional world of these students and will be able to ‘tune in’ and build trust.

The volume presents tools for facilitating ‘empowered teaching’ which supports teachers to create a learning climate that will enable students with complex learning disorders to build trust, gain understanding, and promote development. Establishing an identity of capability will enable students in general, and adults with complex learning disabilities in particular, to identify their true strongpoints, to conceptualize them, and to place them at the forefront of their self-image.

The text provides many lively examples for empowering teaching and for implementing the principles of intervention and teaching to students with complex learning disorders as presented in the book. It offers a revision of the teacher’s role and tools for creating an accepting climate within the class that will enhance learning processes.

Inciting Joy by Ross Gay
Requirements: .ePUB, .MOBI/.AZW reader, 2.2mb
Overview: In these gorgeously written and timely pieces, prizewinning poet and author Ross Gay considers the joy we incite when we care for each other, especially during life’s inevitable hardships. Throughout Inciting Joy, he explores how we can practice recognizing that connection, and also, crucially, how we can expand it.

In “We Kin,” Gay thinks about the garden (especially around August, when the zucchini and tomatoes come in) as a laboratory of mutual aid; in “Share Your Bucket,” he explores skateboarding’s reclamation of public spaces; he considers the costs of masculinity in “Grief Suite”; and in “Through My Tears I Saw,” he recognizes what was healed in caring for his father as he was dying.

In an era when divisive voices take up so much airspace, Inciting Joy offers a vital alternative: What might be possible if we turn our attention to what brings us together, to what we love?

An Admirable Point: a Brief History of the Exclamation Mark! by Florence Hazrat
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 8.2mb
Overview: Love it or hate it, the exclamation mark has been with us from Beowulf to the spam email – an enthusiastic history for language lovers!

Few punctuation marks elicit quite as much love or hate as the exclamation mark. It’s bubbly and exuberant, an emotional amplifier whose flamboyantly dramatic gesture lets the reader know: here be feelings! Scott Fitzgerald famously stated exclamation marks are like laughing at your own joke; Terry Pratchett had a character say that multiple !!! are a ‘sure sign of a diseased mind’. So what’s the deal with ! ?

An Admirable Point recuperates the exclamation mark from its much maligned place at the bottom of the punctuation hierarchy. It explores how ! came about in the first place some six hundred years ago, and uncovers the many ways in which ! has left its mark on art, literature, (pop) culture, and just about any sphere of human activity from Beowulf to spam emails, ee cummings to neuroscience.
